Taiwan: PXPay Plus Joins Samsung Wallet for Shopping, Transit and Top-Ups

From 1 November, owners of recent Samsung Galaxy phones in Taiwan can pay with PXPay Plus, the e-wallet run by supermarket chain PX Mart, straight from Samsung Wallet. The tie-up goes beyond a simple shortcut: shoppers can pay, ride buses and trains, top up and redeem points without opening a separate app, which PXPay Plus calls an industry first for a phone’s built-in wallet.

Key facts

  • PXPay Plus and Samsung Electronics Taiwan announced the integration on 30 October 2026, and it goes live on 1 November.
  • Users add PXPay Plus inside Samsung Wallet (version 6.8.67 or later) and then swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up a payment QR code.
  • Existing users of PX Mart’s older PX Pay can link once they upgrade to PXPay Plus.
  • A launch offer gives 3% back in PXPay Plus Points on a first purchase (capped at 20 points), or 5% on a single purchase of NT$800 or more (capped at 40 points), until 31 January 2027.
  • Throughout November, paying with PXPay Plus through Samsung Wallet at participating stores enters users into a draw for 10 Galaxy Z Fold8 phones.

What the integration actually does

Most phone wallets in Asia store bank cards and transit cards, while local QR e-wallets live in their own apps. This deal puts a local QR wallet inside the phone maker’s wallet. Once linked, the PXPay Plus payment code sits one swipe away, protected by Samsung’s Knox security platform and the phone’s fingerprint or face unlock.

The link covers more than shopping. According to PXPay Plus, a PXPay Plus Transit QR Code can be opened from Samsung Wallet for metro and bus rides in Taipei and New Taipei, and on city buses in Keelung. Users can also top up their balance and sign up for promotions inside the wallet.

Rewards are a big part of the pitch. Shoppers can redeem PXPay Plus Points or Tree Points from Cathay United Bank credit cards for up to the full purchase amount. Those on the PXPay Plus rewards plan who link a Cathay United CUBE card and pay through Samsung Wallet earn 2% in Tree Points at PX Mart and at what the company says are more than 370,000 partner locations across Taiwan.

Why it matters

Taiwan’s payment market is crowded. Card use is high, and a group of licensed e-wallets, including PXPay Plus, JKO Pay and LINE Pay, compete with transit stored-value cards such as EasyCard. PXPay Plus, which is fully owned by the PX Mart group, received its electronic payment licence from the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), Taiwan’s financial regulator, in June 2021. Its edge is PX Mart’s huge network of supermarkets and the daily grocery trips that come with it.

For a wallet like this, the hardest step is getting people to open the app at the till. Living inside Samsung Wallet removes that step for Galaxy users and puts PXPay Plus next to their cards, keys and boarding passes. For Samsung, it is another way to make its wallet useful beyond cards: last week, Samsung Wallet in South Korea added overseas spending through Mastercard and WeChat Pay.

The move also reflects a wider trend in Asia. Big platforms such as phone makers, super-apps and banks increasingly host local QR wallets rather than fight them, so that users see one place to pay. The PXPay Plus deal is a neat example because it brings together retail payments, public transport and loyalty points in a single wallet.

There are limits. The service is open only to Samsung Galaxy phones that support Samsung Wallet, so it does not reach iPhone users or other Android brands. And the launch offers are small and time-limited, so the real test is whether shoppers keep using the wallet once the promotions end.

What to watch

  • Whether other Taiwanese e-wallets, such as JKO Pay or LINE Pay, sign similar deals with Samsung or other phone makers.
  • How quickly the transit QR code catches on against EasyCard and bank cards on Taipei’s metro and buses.
  • Whether Samsung brings local QR wallets into Samsung Wallet in other Asian markets, including Southeast Asia.
