Woori Bank and Samsung have taken Samsung Wallet Money overseas. Galaxy users can now tap to pay at about 150 million Mastercard merchants worldwide and scan WeChat Pay QR codes in China, paying from a prepaid won balance with no card, cash or extra app.

DuitNow QR Now Works in China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Philippines and Laos via Alipay+

PayNet has switched on outbound DuitNow QR payments through Ant International’s Alipay+, letting Maybank, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank customers scan and pay in China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines and Laos straight from their Malaysian banking apps, with Bank Islam joining soon.

South Korea: Hana Financial and Upbit’s Dunamu Test Stablecoin Payments for Merchants

South Korea’s Hana Financial Group and Upbit operator Dunamu are trialling stablecoin payments from Upbit wallets, with Hana Card taking part. Merchants could be paid in near real time instead of days, and the partners plan VIP services from January 2027.

South Korea’s Shinhan Card and Japan’s SBI to Test Yen Stablecoin Payments for Travellers

Shinhan Card has signed a deal with two SBI Group units to test whether Japanese visitors can pay in South Korea with a yen stablecoin, and whether the same digital tokens can speed up trade settlement between the two countries.
